The Panel
Dr. S. Bradley Winter
Dr. Winter specializes in SportsMedicine, knee, shoulder and elbow injuries. He is a Board Certified Physician with OrthoCarolina here in Winston-Salem, a Candidate Member, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Emerging Leader Member, American Orthopaedic Association, Member, North Carolina Medical Society.
Robert J. Gfeller, Jr.
Bob Gfeller has been the Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer of the Childress Institute for Pediatric Trauma of Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center since 2014. The Institute was founded in 2008 with a generous gift from Richard and Judy Childress of NASCAR fame. The Childress and Gfeller families share a passion for saving severely injured children. In 2008, Matthew, Bob’s son of 15 years, sustained a traumatic brain injury while playing high school football and died two days later.
Bob and his wife, Lisa, formed and ran the Matthew Gfeller Foundation for over a decade to raise awareness of youth sports concussion prevention and care, and to raise money to fund the Matthew Gfeller Sport-Related Traumatic Brain Injury Research Center at UNC – Chapel Hill and to support the Childress Institute for Pediatric Trauma at WFBMC.
Patrick Ferlise
Patrick is a preps reporter with the Winston-Salem Journal. Over the course of his year and a half in the Piedmont Triad, he has reported on concussion studies and injuries in high school sports. Several of his stories focused on recent developments made in head trauma research.
